Illegal Bangladeshis  

The Supreme Court, which continues to hear the PIL on deportation of illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas has issued notices to the Union home ministry and chief secretaries of all states and Union territories in this regard and has posted the matter for further hearing on March 18.

Investigating agencies are confronted with a situation that is like a double-edged sword - the problem of illegal Bangladeshis coupled with that of the Rohingya Muslims. Karnataka and Kerala have turned into hideouts.

While the NRC is updated in the state to identify the aliens, the names of over 40.7 lakh people did not figure in the complete draft of NRC, which was published on July 30 last. The immigrants who were deported included 19 men and 2 women. They were deported from the international border at Sutarkandi in the Karimganj district after following proper legal procedures.

Karnataka DyCM G Parameshwara accepted the presence of 177 illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas while speaking at the Assembly today. He said that a special task has been formed to identify and deport them back. However, BJP accused the government of downplaying  the numbers to defend the failed intelligence.
