Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)has proposed to distribute one lakh cows, free of cost, every year in Telangana. BJP manifesto committee chairman NVSS Prabhakar announced that the party has pledged to distribute cows in villages at the time of festivals, to those who want them.

Prabhakar, an MLA in the recently-diluted legislative Assembly, said cows are useful in many sectors such as rural economy and agriculture. He added that there is another proposal to set up a ‘mini-India linguistic welfare board’. This board will work for the welfare of linguistic minorities coming to Hyderabad in search of livelihood.

The manifesto committee earlier proposed regulating the sale of liquor in the state, claiming, the unrestricted sale has caused social and law and order problems. Prabhakar claimed sale of liquor had been a huge source of income for Telangana Rashtra Samiti government and earlier governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Among other poll promises, BJP has promised to cancel the surcharge fares by state-run Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses during festivals such as Diwali. The saffron party also promised free transport to those performing Deeksha – religious code of behaviour – for those visiting temples such as Sabarimala, Prabhakar said. The manifesto will be released next week.  Telangana State Assembly elections will be conducted on December 7, 2018.
