Perumbavoor: Dinesh Lal Yadav, also known as Nirahua, is not only a popular star in north India but in Kerala too. The migrant workers in Kerala are happy in the state because they can watch their star’s movie just for Rs 40 here. You will be surprised to know that a tiny crown at a movie theatre in Perumbavoor is not for Kerala superstar Mohanlal but for Nirahua.

Nirahua is an Indian anchor, Bhojpuri film actor, singer, and one of the directors of Nirahua Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. According to reports, the number of domestic migrants in Kerala had jumped by 9.1 lakh. The majority of migrants are found in the construction sector, industry, hotel, manufacturing units and agricultural fields. This has led to Nirahua’s popularity in the southern state.

The migrants in Kerala spend nearly one-third of their earning locally, which will be roughly Rs 10,000 crore per year. In the state, 18% of the migrant workers are skilled labours and 69% are unskilled labours.

The migrants say that the wages that they earn in Kerala is more than double than in other states.

Today, migrants are major drivers of the economy in Perumbavoor town in Ernakulam district. Interestingly, the entire market is known as 'Bhai Bazar' in Perumbavoor where migrants sell wares of all kinds on Sundays.

According to the 2018 state government report, the highest number of migrants in Kerala are in Ernakulam district which is around 6 lakh and then Wayanad – 4.6 lakh, Kannur – 0.9 lakh, Kasaragod – 2.8 lakh, Kottayam – 2.6 lakh and Thrissur – 2.5 lakh.

According to the Kerala migration survey 2018, it is found that the emigrants from Kerala had dropped from 24 lakh in 2013 to 21.2 lakh in 2018.
