Vijay Kumar Yadav is an Indian judo player. He was born on 15 April 1996 in Sulemapur village, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. His sun sign is Aries. His father, Dashrath Yadav works inn agricultural machinery manufacturing company in Chandigarh. His mother, Chinta Devi is a homemaker. He has four siblings, two brother and two sisters.

Vijay Kumar Yadav competes in the 60 kg men's category. 

At the age of 7, he started taking wrestling training at a training centre in Lalpur, Varanasi. The wrestling training center was 22 kilometres away from his home. He used to cover the distance with his bicycle. 

Later, Vijay attended Dr Sampurnanand Sports Stadium in Sigra, Varanasi, for his training. At the stadium, he received training under the coach Kashi Naresh Yadav. His coach advised him to train himself for judo. 

Vijay moved to the hostel of Sports Authority of India Center in Lucknow. 

After that he spent some of his training years at the Sports Authority of India, Bhopal.

Championships

He participated in various national and international judo tournaments including the Asian Open 2018, Commonwealth Championships 2019, Budapest Grand Prix 2019, World Championships Senior 2019 and Tel Aviv Grand Slam 2021. 

During an interview, Vijay shared that he wanted to participate in Tokyo Olympics 2020, but he could not qualify for the games. 

In August 2022, he won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in the 60 kg men's category, defeating Petros Christodoulides.

On 1 January 2014, he won the India U21 Championship in Shillong, Meghalaya.

On 27 February 2017, he won the India Championship, Chennai.

On 13 March 2018, he won the India U21 Championship, Jammu and Kashmir.

On 10 November 2018, Vijay won the Commonwealth Championship, Jaipur.

On 25 September 2019, he won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Championships, Walsall.
