Subhash Chandra is a politician, and the Chairman of Essel Group. He was born on 30 November 1950 in Hisar, Haryana. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He dropped out from school when he was in class 10.

In the year 1965, Subhash joined his family business as a commission agent, supplying rice to the Food Corporation of India.

He set up his own manufacturing business called Essel Packaging, which deals in packaging of plastic tubes for toothpaste and other flexible materials.

In 1989, Subhash established an amusement park named Essel World, in North Bombay.

In the year 1992, along with Li Ka Shing, he started India's first Hindi language cable channel ‘Zee TV’. 

His TV channel has almost 959 million viewership all over the world. 

He launched the first lottery in India and the first Dish TV after the success of Zee Channel.

In the year 2005, he launched a newspaper - DNA (Daily News and Analysis) with Dainik Bhaskar Group.

In the year 2004, he was awarded the ‘Global Indian Entertainment Personality of the Year Award’. 

He has been honoured with many awards for his significant contribution in the field of media, such as, ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ by Ernst & Young and ‘Business of the Year’ by Business Standard in the year 1999. 

In 2010, he received the ‘Indian News Broadcasting Award’. In 2011, he won the International Emmy Award.

Subhash Chandra’s books

His memoir book titled ‘Z Factor: My Journey as the Wrong Man at the Right Time’ was co-edited by Pranjal Sharma. He released the book at 7 Race Course Road, New Delhi with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A day later his second book was released at Zee Jaipur Sahitya Mahotsav. 

In 2013, Lord Ghulam Noon of the University of East London (the then Vice-Chancellor of UEL) awarded him a Doctor of Business Administration.

On 24 May 2016, he resigned as the director and non-executive chairman of the company.

On 11 June 2016, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from the state of Haryana.

He is a supporter of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
