Joining politics

Smriti Irani joined BJP in 2003 and became the Vice President of Maharashtra Youth Wing in 2004.

Smriti Irani was appointed as All India President of BJP’s Women Wing called ‘BJP Mahila Morcha’ on 24 June 2010.

In August 2011, she became a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat.

In 2014, she contested in the Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh’s constituency Amethi. She lost to Congress representative Rahul Gandhi. 

Smriti Irani’s roles

Smriti Irani was appointed as the Human Resources Minister by PM Narendra Modi on 26 May 2014. 

She was given the charge of Ministry of Textiles on 5 July 2016. 

Smriti Irani has been working as the Minister of Women and Child Development since 2019. 

In the year 2022, she was appointed as the Minister of Minority Affairs.
