Sakshi Malik is a freestyle wrestler. She was born on 3 September 1992 in Rohtak, Haryana. Her zodiac sign is Virgo. She completed her schooling from Vaishya Public School and DAV Centenary Public School. She earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. 

Her father’s name is Sukhbir Singh; he is a bus conductor. Her mother, Sudesh Malik is an Anganwadi worker. She has a brother, Sachin Malik.

Sakshi is married to Satyavrat Kadiyan; he is also a wrestler.

Interesting facts about Sakshi 

She started taking professional wrestling training at the age of 12.

Sakshi was trained by Ishwar Dahiya at Chhotu Ram Stadium, Rohtak.

During her training period, she had to wrestle with local boys, as parents did not allow their daughters to learn wrestling.

A lot of the villagers opposed her family and the coach for training her to become a wrestler.

Sakshi began participating in international tournaments from an early age. 

Awards

She won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championship.

Sakshi made the whole nation proud when she won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

In May 2016, she qualified for the Rio Olympics after defeating China's Zhang Lan in the Olympic World Qualifying Tournament.

On 17 August 2016, she won the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics by defeating Kazakhstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova. She became the first Indian female wrestler and the fourth female athlete from India to win a medal at the Olympics.

In 2022, Sakshi Malik won her first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games after defeating Canada's Ana Godinez Gonzalez in the final round of the women's freestyle 62 kg event.

In 2016, Sakshi was awarded with Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Puraskar. 

Sakshi was honoured with the Padma Shri Award in the year 2017. 

Fight for a cause

Sakshi Malik along with Vinesh Phogat and other international players accused Brij Bhushan Singh (a member of the Lok Sabha) of sexual and mental harassment. The wrestlers protested for the imprisonment of the accused at Jantar Mantar.
