S Jaishankar is an Indian politician. He was born on 9 January 1955 in New Delhi. His sun sign is Capricorn. He completed his schooling from Air Force Central School, New Delhi. He earned a graduate degree from St Stephen’s College, New Delhi, MPhil and PhD degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He also holds an MA degree in Political Science and International Relations. 

His father, K Subramanyam Jaishankar was a civil servant, and his mother, Sulochna Jaishankar is a homemaker.

He is married to Kyoko Jaishankar. They are parents to three children, Medha Jaishankar, Arjun Jaishankar, and Dhruva Jaishankar.

In the year 1979, he was appointed as the first secretary of the Indian Mission in Moscow.

In 1993, he served as the Director (Eastern Europe) in the Ministry of External Affairs and also as Press Secretary and Speechwriter to the then President of India Shankar Dayal Sharma.

In the year 1996, S Jaishankar became the Deputy Chief of the Indian Embassy in Tokyo.

In 2000, he served as the Ambassador of India in the Czech Republic.

From 2004 to 2007, he was involved in negotiating the US-India civil nuclear agreement and improving defence cooperation, including the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami relief operations.

In the year 2004, S Jaishankar was appointed as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

He served as the High Commissioner of India in Singapore in the year 2007. During his tenure, he helped implement the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), which led to the expansion of Indian trade in Singapore.

Since 30 May 2019, S Jaishankar has been serving as the Minister of External Affairs of the Government of India. 

S Jaishankar was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind in the year 2019.
