Naveen Patnaik is an Indian politician. He was born on 16 October 1946 in Cuttack, Odisha. His sun sign is Libra. He did his schooling from Welham Boys School, Dehradun, and Doon School, Dehradun. He earned his graduate degree from Kirorimal College, University of Delhi. 

His father Biju Patnaik was a politician, and his mother Gyan Patnaik was a pilot.

Naveen Patnaik is renowned as the longest-serving Chief Minister of Odisha. 

From 1984 to 1993, Naveen Patnaik authored four books. In 1988, he appeared in a small role in the film ‘The Deceiver.’

In the year 1997, he joined the Janata Dal party after the demise of his father Biju Patnaik. He was elected from the Aska constituency in the Lok Sabha elections. 

From 19 March 1998 to 5 March 2000, he served as the Union Minister in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Naveen Patnaik’s political journey

After the split of Janata Dal in the year 1998, he formed his own party 'Biju Janata Dal’ (BJD).

On 5 March 2000, Naveen Patnaik became the Chief Minister of Odisha. 

In the year 2009, he ended his alliance with BJP due to some internal conflicts. Despite that, Naveen Patnaik won the 2009 assembly elections with a majority and was sworn in as the CM of Odisha for the third time. 

Naveen Patnaik is one of the founding members of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage.

In the year 2017, he received the Outlook Speakout Award.

In 2018, the former President Pratibha Patil awarded him the Ideal Chief Minister Award. 

The same year, he won the International Hockey Federation (FIH) President's Award for promoting hockey in Odisha.

During his tenure, Odisha became the first Southeast Asian state to be honoured by the United Nations for disaster management.

Presently, he is serving as the 14th Chief Minister of Odisha.
