Nana Patekar is an Indian actor and producer. He was born on 1 January 1951 in Raigad, Maharashtra. His sun sign is Gemini. He completed his schooling from Samarth Vidyalaya, Dadar West, Mumbai. He earned a graduate degree from Sir JJ Institute of Applied Arts, Mumbai.

His father, Gajanand Patekar was a businessman. His mother, Dinkar Patekar was a homemaker. He has two brothers, Ashok Patekar and Dileep Patekar.

Nana Patekar’s real name is Vishwanath Patekar. 

He had an inferiority complex in his childhood because of his dark complexion. He started participating in dramas and plays to gain more confidence.  

His family suffered from financial crisis when he was kid. To support his family financially, he started working after school hours and earned himself a meal and Rs 35 in a month.

Nana Patekar made his debut in the year 1978 with the film ‘Gaman.’

He had his first breakthrough with the release of 1989 film ‘Parinda.’ In the film, he played the role of a gangster. 

Nana Patekar was honoured with the National Film Award and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film ‘Parinda.’

During the shooting of the film, he almost got caught in a fire. He narrowly escaped from the fire accident.

In the year 1988, Nana Patekar played the role of ‘Baba Golub’ in Mira Nair’s film ‘Salaam Bombay!’

The film received critical acclaim and was awarded the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. 

In 1989, ‘Salaam Bombay!’ was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 61st Academy Awards.
