Murli Manohar Joshi is an Indian politician and a senior BJP leader. He was born on 5 January 1934 in Nainital, Uttarakhand. His sun sign is Capricorn. He holds BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees that he obtained from Agra University and Allahabad University. 

His father’s name was Manmohan Joshi, and his mother’s name was Chandrawati Joshi. 

He is married to Tarla Joshi. They are parents to two daughters, Nivedita Joshi and Priyamvada Joshi.

Murli Manohar Joshi joined the RSS at a very young age and participated in the Cow Protection Movement during 1953–54.

He was an active member of the Kumbh Kisan Movement of Uttar Pradesh in 1955.

He published a research paper about subjects related to physics in Hindi language. At the time, he was the first researcher to present a research paper in Hindi language.

After completing his doctorate degree, Murli Manohar taught Physics at the Allahabad University.

In the year 1977, he contested in the assembly elections and emerged victorious from Almora constituency. 

He joined Bharatiya Janata Party in the year 1980 and was appointed as the General Secretary of the party.

Murli Manohar Joshi served as the President of BJP from the year 1991 to 1993.

Murli Manohar Joshi as the Home Minister

He served as the Home Minister of India for 13 days in 1996 in the cabinet of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He served as the Human Resource Development Minister from 1998 to 2004.

In the year 2009, Murli Manohar was appointed as the Chairman of the Manifesto Preparation Board of BJP.

Murli Manohar Joshi was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan award in January 2017.
