Krishnakumar Kunnath, famously known as KK, was born on 23 August 1968 in Delhi. He was a popular playback singer and composer. He died on 31 May 2022 in Kolkata. He completed his schooling from Mount St Mary School, Delhi. He earned a degree in Economics from Kirorimal College, Delhi. 

His father’s name was CS Nair, and his mother’s name was Kanakavalli. 

He was married to Jyothy Krishna. He was a father to two children, Kunnath Nakul and Kunnath Taamara.

His hobbies were travelling and listening to classical music. 

His favourite actors were Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Irfaan Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, and Raveena Tandon. 

His favourite singers were AR Rahman, Hariharan, Shaan, Pritam, Mohammad Rafi, RD Burman, Kishore Kumar, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, and Bryan Adams.

KK’s debut song

KK’s full name is Krishnakumar Kunnath. He started his career in the year 1999 with the song ‘Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil Se’ in the film ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.’ He gained recognition from his very first Bollywood song. 

He recorded over 700 songs in his singing career in languages including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Over a period of four years, he lent his voice to over 3500 jingles in 11 Indian languages. 

KK’s international fame

In the year 2013, KK recorded a song for an international album ‘Rise Up Colours of Peace.’ The song was written by a Turkish poet Fethullah Gulen. 

KK sang a song titled ‘Tanha Chala’ for a Pakistani TV show called ‘The Ghost’ in the year 2008. 

In the year 2004, KK was honoured with the National Award for the song ‘Tu Aashiqui Hai.’

On 31 May 2022, while performing in a live concert, KK suffered from a cardiac arrest and died on the spot. The whole nation mourned his loss, and several events were held to celebrate his legacy.
