Harmanpreet Kaur is an Indian cricketer. She was born on 8 March 1989 in Moga, Punjab. Her sun sign is Pisces. She completed her schooling from Hans Raj Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jalandhar. She grew up in a Sikh family. Her father’s name is Harminder Singh Bhullar, and her mother’s name is Satvinder Kaur. She has three siblings.

Interesting facts about Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet’s father aspired to be a cricketer, but he could not pursue his dreams due to various reasons. He constantly supported Harmanpreet and encouraged her to play for her country. 

Harmanpreet used to play cricket with boys’ team in her early years. 

She received training from Jian Jyoti School Academy, Punjab. Her first coach was Kamaldish Singh Sodhi. 

On 11 June 2009, Harmanpreet played her first T20 match against England. 

Becoming the ODI captain

In the year 2013, she was appointed the ODI captain of the Indian women's cricket team. In the match against Bangladesh, Harmanpreet made her second ODI century. She finished the tournament with 195 runs at an average of 97.50. 

In 2014, she was offered a position in Indian Railways. On the recommendation of Sachin Tendulkar, the Maharashtra government appointed her in the Mumbai division of Western Railways. 

In 2016, she was signed by the Sydney Scorchers, an overseas T20 franchise. She became the first Indian woman the play in the Big Bash League. 

In 2017, she scored a six on the last ball, and made her team win the World Cup qualifier match against South Africa. 

Harmanpreet’s awards

The same year, she was declared the ICC Women’s T20I Team Player of the Year. 

In 2017, Harmanpreet was honoured with the Arjuna Award by the then President Ram Nath Kovind. 

ACA Women’s Academy honoured her with the title Best Women Allrounder Player. 

The then Chief Minister of Punjab, Amrinder Singh offered her a job in the Punjab Police forces. 

In August 2020, Harmanpreet was featured on the cover page of Femina magazine.

Leading the team

On 8 June 2022, BCCI made Harmanpreet Kaur as the captain of the India Women's team for the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, after Mithali Raj announced her international retirement.

In 2023, the Indian women’s cricket team earned the gold medal at the Asian Games held in China, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur.
