Harjinder Kaur is an Indian weightlifter. She was born on 14 October 1996 in Mehas village, Patiala, Punjab. Her sun sign is Libra. She completed her schooling from Nabha Government Girls School, Punjab. She earned a bachelor’s degree from SGTB Khalsa College, Anandpur Sahib, Punjab. 

Her father, Sahib Singh is a farmer. Her mother, Ekuldeep Kaur is a homemaker. She has a brother, Preetpal Singh.

Harjinder Kaur competes in the 71 kg women's category. 

She was interested in sports since childhood. During her school days she used to participate in Kabaddi events.

Harjinder joined the sports wing at Punjabi University. Her coach, Paramjit Sharma encouraged her to participate in tug of war games. Her coach is a 1990 Commonwealth Games weightlifting champion. He advised Harjinder to take up professional weightlifting.  

Weightlifting Championships

Harjinder Kaur has won many championships like, Women’s Inter State Senior Weightlifting Competition, 35th Women’s Senior National Weightlifting Championship, and Senior National Competition in Orissa. 

In the year 2021, she received extensive training at National Camp, Patiala. 

Harjinder seeks inspiration from Mirabai Chanu. 

Harjinder’s Commonwealth Game win

In 2022, she won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwat Maan congratulated her and gave her a cash prize of Rs 40 lakh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Harjinder on her achievements through a Twitter post. 

Awards

In 2017, she won a gold medal at the 3rd Women’s International Weightlifting Championship in Kolkata. 

In 2021, she won a gold medal at the Senior Weightlifting Championship in Patiala. 

In 2022, Harjinder won a gold medal at the Senior National Weightlifting Championship in 71 kg category. 

On 1 August 2022, she won a bronze medal in the weightlifting 71 kg category at the Commonwealth Games.
