Gurdas Maan is an Indian Punjabi and Hindi play back singer, songwriter, choreographer and actor. He was born on 4 January 1957 in Gidderbaha, Punjab. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. Gurdas Maan did his schooling from Yadvendra Public School, Patiala. He has a diploma in Sports from Netaji Subhash Khel Sansthan, Patiala. 

His father’s name is Sardar Gurdev Singh Maan and his mother’s name is Bibi Tej Kaur. He has a brother, Paramjit. 

Gurdas is married to Manjeet Maan; she is a director and producer. He has a son, Gureek G Maan. He is also a video director and producer.

Gurdas is non-vegetarian. His favourite Indian dishes are ‘Rajma Chawal’ and ‘Sarso ka Saag’. He loves to eat ice cream.

His hobbies include reading books. He stays healthy by regular exercises in gym.

His favourite film is ‘Waqt’ (1965). He loves the songs of Kuldeep Manak and Surinder Shinda. 

His favourite colour is black and grey.

Gurdas's debut song

 In the year 1980, Gurdas began his musical journey with the Punjabi song ‘Dil Da Mamla Hai’.

Gurdas Maan very interested in music and mimicry since childhood.

It was during his college that he made his first stage performance with the song ‘Sajna Ve Sajna’ at an official function of the Punjab State Electricity Board. The government employees were impressed with his performance and gave him a job in their department.

Gurdas Maan was a good athlete and won the Bronze Model in the National Wrestling Championship in his college days.

He has a black belt in Judo.

He used to participate in youth festivals organized by various universities and won many awards for his singing and acting.

He wrote and directed the television show ‘POP Time’ for Doordarshan Delhi.

Listening to his debut song, the producer of Jalandhar TV station approached him for a television recording of the same song. Maan immediately agreed, following which the song aired on 31 December 1980 and became an instant hit.

In 2001, he met with an accident in a village near Rupnagar, Punjab, in which his driver and friend Tejpal passed away. Gurdas dedicated the song ‘Saavari’ to him.

Gurdas Maan has received awards in various categories like Geet Sadabahar Track, Apna Punjab, Birmingham, The Best Song, The Best Album and The Best International Artist of the Asian Pop and Media Award.

In the year 2005, he won the Jury's Award (National Film Award), given by the President of India.

In 2009, he won the award for Best International Album at the UK Asian Music Awards for his superhit song ‘Boot Polishen’.

On 7 September 2010, Gurdas Maan was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Wolverhampton in the UK for his immense contribution to international Punjabi musical art and culture.

In the year 2015, Maan performed on the song ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da’ with Diljit Dosanjh at Coke Studio.

 He made a special appearance in the Bollywood film ‘Veer Zara’ alongside actor Shah Rukh Khan and actress Preity Zinta.

He is a devotee of Baba Murad Shah Ji and Sai Laddi Shah Ji. Every year in the month of May, he performs at Dera Baba Murad Shah Ji (Nakodar, Punjab) 

He is a big supporter of Manchester United Football Club.

Apart from Punjabi, Gurdas is also proficient in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Haryanvi and Rajasthani languages.

Gurdas Maan has composed more than 34 albums and has written more than 305 songs.

Gurdas Maan's wife Manjit Maan is the owner of a production house ‘Sai Productions’ in Mumbai.

Maan was awarded the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the film ‘Waris Shah: Ishq Da Waris’ by the President of India.

He is often addressed as 'The Living Legend', 'Maan Sahab', and 'Pride of Punjab'.

Maan is the owner of the restaurant ‘The Studio- By Gurdas Maan’ which is known for providing fine dining experience with live music performance.

He was seen as a judge in the television show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Punjabi’ in the year 2020.
