Anand Kumar is an Indian mathematician. He was born on 1 January 1973 in Patna, Bihar. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. He did his schooling from Patna High School, Bihar. He earned his degrees from Bihar National College, Patna, and Patna Science College. 

His father was a clerk in the Indian Post Office department. His mother, Jayanti Devi is a homemaker. He has a brother, Pranav Kumar, who is violist. 

He is married to Ritu. They are parents to a son named Jagat Kumar.

Anand Kumar received offers to pursue his higher education from Cambridge and Sheffield Universities, but he could not accept them due to financial difficulties.

Anand Kumar started teaching maths to kids after the demise of his father. He named his study centre as Ramanujan School of Mathematics. 

During his graduate studies, he published a paper on statistical theory in The Mathematical Gazette and Mathematical Spectrum.

Super 30

In the early 2000, Anand Kumar had the idea of Super 30. It is a group of thirty students who are taught with an aim of clearing the IIT JEE exams. Educational aid is given to students from financially weaker backgrounds. 

A one-hour special programme on Super-30 was broadcasted on Discovery channel.

Anand Kumar’s achievements

Anand Kumar’s name is registered in the Limca Book of Records for providing free education to underprivileged children. 

In the year 2010, the Government of Bihar honoured him with the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Education Award. The same year, he was included in the Time magazine. 

In 2017, he appeared in the popular reality TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ as a special guest. 

Karpagam University awarded him with an honourary Doctor of Science degree in December 2014. 

Anand Kumar’s film and book

Anand Kumar’s biography titled ‘Super 30: Anand Kumar’ written by Canada-based psychiatrist Biju Mathew was published in the year 2016. 

In the year 2019, Hrithik Roshan played the role of Anand Kumar in his biopic film ‘Super 30.’ The film was made under the direction of filmmaker Vikas Bahl.
