Washington: US President Donald Trump slammed India for charging “very, very high tariffs” on American products.

This is not the first time that Trump has criticised/warned India. Here are instances of Trump’s comments against India.

On import duty on American products

"India charges us tremendous tariffs. When we send Harley-Davidson motorcycles, other things to India, they charge very, very high tariffs."

On India demanding trade deal

"We have a country, take India. Good relationship. They want to make a deal now because they don't want me to do what I'm going to do, what I have to. So, they (Indians) call us. They didn't want to make a deal with anybody else."

On Harley-Davidson bikes attracting ‘tremendous tax’

“We pay a tremendous tax to get into their countries — motorcycles, Harley-Davidson — it goes into a certain country. I won’t mention the fact that it happens to be India, in this case.”

“And a great gentleman called me from India and he said, we have just reduced the tariff on motorcycles, reduced it to 50 per cent from 75, and even 100 per cent’.”

“If you are Harley-Davidson, you have 50 to 75 per cent tax, tariff to get your motorcycle, your product in. And yet they sell thousands and thousands of motorcycles, which a lot of people don’t know, from India into the US. You know what our tax is? Nothing!”

On imposing sanctions if India buys oil from Iran

“Anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States. I am asking for WORLD PEACE, nothing less!”
