As the world mourns the attack on twin towers in the United States, we take a look at all the four targets which the hijackers wanted to demolish
Bengaluru: The attack on the twin towers on September 11, 2001 is a tragedy none forgets. Today as the world mourns the attack, it is important to note that the attackers had other targets also in mind.
In all, there were four crashes on that day.
Time: 8: 46 am
As many as five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the northern façade of the World Trade Center's North Tower.
Time: 9: 03 am
Around fifteen minutes later, another five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the southern façade of the South Tower.
Time: 9: 37 am
Five other hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon.
Time: 10: 03 am
Another flight, United Airlines Flight 93, was forced to crash near Shanksville, Pennsylvania 3 minutes after 10 am. It was reported that the passengers in the flight fought the four hijackers. Reports also added that the intended target of this plane was the White House or the Capitol.
The voice recorder from the cockpit of this plane revealed that passengers tried to take control of the plane from the hijackers after they had learnt about the other three crashes earlier. Later, as the hijackers went on to learn that the passengers would foil their attempt, they crashed the plane elsewhere.
What the hijackers used inside the plane
It is interesting to note that a few passengers and crew members provided details about what the hijackers had inside the plane. As per reports, the hijackers used mace, tear gas, pepper spray with a view to overcome attendants and there were also reports that some had been stabbed. The hijackers had also killed pilots, flight attendants and one or more passengers.
