The Doon School, renowned as the most expensive school in India, is situated in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. According to reports, the annual fees ranges from Rs 10 lakh to 12 lakh, surpassing the average annual salary of a middle-class person.

The list of most expensive schools in India goes long. However, five schools that secure first five positions as the most expensive ones are presented here. 

Narayan Naik, a retired teacher from Dakshina Kannada, a district in Karnataka, is known as the Scholarship Master. His initiative strives to provide educational scholarships to school and college students for pursuing higher studies.

Vijay Kumar Chansauria retired on 31 January 2022. He was the eldest among his five siblings, and his father struggled to educate all the children. He worked as a rickshaw driver to pay for his own fees. He got a job as a teacher and saved money to help the underprivileged students.

Arpita Roy lost both her legs in a car accident. With the financial support of her brother, she underwent surgery abroad after a 12-day struggle to gather funds. Today, Arpita stands as a renowned yoga teacher and encourages other people to conquer over all the obstacles in life.

A teacher from Rajasthan, Bhairaram Bhakar has dedicated the past 24 years to preserving greenery. He has dedicated himself to transforming the barren areas of Rajasthan into green landscapes. Notably, Bhairaram has planted over four lakh trees in the challenging terrain of the Thar dessert.

Dr Anil Gupta was working as a computer and electronics teacher in the 1980s, when he decided to quit his job. With very limited resources, he embarked on his business journey to become one of the most powerful businessmen of India.

Nageshu, born in Odisha, works as guest lecturer during the day, and a porter during the nights. Due to difficult financial circumstances, he could only manage to complete his education while working as a labourer and a porter. He also runs a coaching centre where he provides free education to the underprivileged children.

Nellayappan B serves as the OSD (Officer on Special Duty) to Nagaland’s CM. He is also the Deputy Director of Nagaland’s School Education system. Nellayappan B grew up in a small house with his parents and four siblings. He worked hard and got a permanent job as a government teacher. In 2012, he became the school's principal and the Assistant Director of the Education Board in 2018. In 2022, Nellayappan was promoted to the rank of Deputy Director.

Jagdish Chand Chaudhry, the founder of Aakash Institute, climbed up the ladder of success with his belief in numerology. His early years were spent in poverty and today he is considered one of the most powerful ed-tech giants in India.

Dr Shishir Kumar Pandey completed his education from government schools and local universities, and today he serves as the Vice Chancellor of Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang State University, Chitrakoot. For a brief period, he was also a representative of the Indian embassy in Russia and gave lectures at various Russian universities and inaugurated events related to Indian cultures.

Shubhra Ranjan is an exceptional teacher from Delhi, whose students have secured top positions in the UPSC exams. Her students, Ishita Kishore, secured the first rank in the UPSC exam in 2022, and another student, Tina Dabi, achieved the same feat in 2015. She specializes in teaching subjects like Political Science and International Relations, which hold great significance in the UPSC examination.

Divya has successfully become an entrepreneur through the establishment of ‘Divya Lalitha Dolls.’ Divya holds MSc and BEd degrees. After completing her education, she worked as a teacher for a few years. Her husband lost his job due to the pandemic. At the age of 28, she commenced her venture of decorating dolls. She dressed a doll in a saree and received positive response. 

Mehboob Malik is popular as ‘Hero Chai Wala’ in his locality. Due to financial constraints, he could not complete his studies. Today, he runs an NGO where he provides poor children with free education and spends 80 percent of his income from the tea shop on the school expenses.

Due to poor financial conditions of the household, Rajesh Kumar Sharma had to drop out of college. He juggled between odd jobs in Delhi before finally deciding to open a free school for poor children. Today, more than 300 students attend his school.
