Bengaluru: Karnataka minister for public works and senior JD(S) leader HD Revanna finds himself in a bothersome situation as the Election Commission is investigating allegations of election malpractice against him.

The probe is being conducted based on complaints filed by BJP polling agents Mayanna and Raju with Hassan deputy commissioner saying that Revanna had allowed proxy voting in Holenarasipura, Karnataka.

Based on the complaint, deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis had suspended three polling officials. Now, regional commissioner TK Anil Kumar is heading the panel that is probing the allegations.

The complaint states that Revanna had allowed a group of people inside the booth in order to cast proxy votes. It further states that one of the proxy voters was a friend of the complainant himself and that he had cast his vote earlier in another booth.

Paduvalahippe, where the incident is said to have taken place, was identified as a sensitive and high-profile booth in Hassan. It is here that the former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and his family members vote.

Reacting to the allegations, BJP spokesperson Shreenath Sheshadri said, “It is a blatant misuse of powers by HD Revanna. He should not have been doing it. He also used the official machinery to ensure his son gets more votes. One of his cars was also caught transporting cash in lakhs. He should not have stopped to such lows for the sake of his son.”
