When a woman attains the age of 50, people start imposing restrictions on their individual choices. Establishing a unique identity for girls at a young age is already challenging, and doing so later in life is deemed nearly impossible. However, Mukta Singh breaks these norms. She took the centre stage in her life at 58 by embarking on a modelling career. Let’s delve deeper into her inspiring journey.

Who is Mukta Singh?

Mukta Singh is a resident of Gurugram, Haryana. Her husband is a retired fighter pilot. Due to the dynamic nature of her husband’s job, the couple relocated to various cities frequently. Even her father had a transferable job which affected her education. Due to this, she attended a boarding school in Ajmer. Originally from Bharatpur, Mukta completed her schooling and college education at Sophia and pursued a Master’s degree in English.

Role as a wife and a mother

Mukta’s parents ensured quality education for her. After she got married, she kept herself busy with household duties. Nevertheless, her husband remained supportive throughout. Mukta never worked a full-time job but engaged in freelance work consistently. During her husband’s posting in Delhi, she worked with various firms including an event management company, newspapers, and magazines. Moreover, Mukta enjoys art and music, and loves to paint.

Kids’ education

Mukta Singh’s husband took an early retirement and the family settled in Gurugram. She mentions that due to the modest salary of her husband, the two could not afford to send their children to prestigious schools. However, she’s proud that despite the challenges, their children have achieved milestones in their lives. The couple’s son pursued law in London and has secured a job there.

New beginnings at 58

Mukta Singh shares how the opportunity of modelling came her way. She always had a passion for maintaining fitness and style. However, when her mother fell ill, she began neglecting her own well-being. This was a period when she began losing her charm. It was her daughter who took notice of Mukta’s new habits and reminded her to prioritize self-care again. From then on, she began to focus on her well-being.

For a family wedding, she purchased a designer saree from Akaro brand. She shared her pictures on social media, tagging Akaro, and gained significant attention. The brand reached out to her and offered her a modelling opportunity. Today, she collaborates with prominent designers like Shweta Kapoor. Remarkably, she has also been featured in Bazaar magazine.

Enduring challenges

Mukta’s journey was marked with criticism and adversity. When she began experimenting with her styles and posted pictures on social media, she often received negative comments on her posts. People mocked her for her age and her choice of clothing. The comments affected her initially, but she learned to ignore them with the unwavering support of her family. Their encouragement inspires her to pursue her passions at this stage of life.
