Priya Yashwant Tadam, a 24-year-old tribal girl from Bhanapur, a small village in Chandrapur district, has overcome numerous challenges to pursue her dreams. Her aspiration to study LLM in London is now on the verge of becoming a reality. She has been awarded a Rs 37.61 lakh scholarship from the Maharashtra government, which will support her in achieving her goal of higher education abroad.
Priya Yashwant Tadam's Early Education and Struggles
Bhanapur, a small village surrounded by lush green forests and home to just 40 families, lacked even a basic school. Determined to get an education, Priya and her younger sister, Shivani, had to walk nearly two kilometres every day to attend a primary school in Asolamendha village, located in Saoli tehsil. Their father, Yashwant Tadam, a marginal farmer, worked tirelessly to ensure his daughters received a good education, despite the financial hardships the family faced.
Priya Yashwant Tadam’s Education
To pursue her matriculation studies, Priya was sent to Gadchiroli, where she completed her schooling. After finishing her class 12, she went on to earn a BA-LLB degree from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law in Nagpur. During her time in Nagpur, she gained valuable legal experience by interning under Advocate Sachin Zoting at both the District Court and High Court, further strengthening her foundation in law.
London LLM Journey and Scholarship Struggles
Priya’s dream of pursuing an LLM at Queen Mary University of London took a significant step forward with the support of Dinesh Sheram from Nagpur, who guided her through the admission process. Meanwhile, Umesh Uike played a crucial role in fast-tracking the verification and processing of her educational documents, ensuring that she could move ahead with her academic journey without unnecessary delays.
Priya faced several hurdles in securing her scholarship. The registration deadline at Queen Mary University was October 9, but the Maharashtra Tribal Development Department had yet to approve her scholarship. Despite her efforts to request an extension from the university, the uncertainty surrounding the approval process left her academic future hanging in the balance.
As the situation grew critical, Chandrapur's Guardian Minister, Sudhir Mungantiwar, and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Vijay Wadettiwar, stepped in to support Priya. Wadettiwar personally introduced her to the Chief Minister, who promptly convened a meeting and instructed the immediate approval of her scholarship proposal. Meanwhile, Minister Mungantiwar, who was on an official tour in London, directed his OSD (Officer on Special Duty) to expedite the process. As a result, on the same day, Priya was granted official approval for a Rs 37.61 lakh scholarship, ensuring her dream of studying in London could finally become a reality.
Family Support and Dedication
Priya gives the credit of her success to the unwavering support and sacrifices of her family. Despite financial hardships, her father made every possible effort to ensure she received a quality education. Her sister, an engineer working in a private company, showed extraordinary dedication by quitting her job to help with Priya’s admission process, ensuring that nothing stood in the way of her dream to study in London.
Priya’s Dreams
With her scholarship secured, Priya is now awaiting her visa and hopes to fly to London in the coming days to begin her studies. Her journey is a testament to the power of hard work, perseverance, and the right support system. Priya Tadam’s inspiring story serves as a beacon of hope for thousands of young girls who dare to dream big despite financial and social challenges. Her success proves that with determination and the right guidance, no obstacle is insurmountable.
