Raipur: It can be disheartening for many when they fail to get placements during campus placement drives. Vasu Jain was shortlisted by 7 companies but could not make it past the interview rounds. He was the second topper of his university and yet he could not secure a place in the top companies. Vasu’s teachers and friends could not understand the reason of him not being selected as he was bright and confident and excellent with his interpersonal skills.

The incident disheartened Vasu, but he did not let it discourage him. He had meaningful conversations with his mother, after which he got inspired to become an administrative officer looking at the impact they have on the society. He began his preparations for the competitive UPSC exams and accomplished his dream of becoming an IAS. It would not be wrong to say that he could not get an ordinary office job because bigger things were waiting for him.

Inspiration from mother

In her younger years, Vasu Jain’s mother also attempted her luck in the UPSC exams but failed to secure sufficient marks. Her dedication inspired her son which helped him stay motivated in the pursuit of his dreams. He grew up listening to his mother’s stories about her life.

Vasu Jain pursued his degree in law from Gujarat National Law University (GNLU). He was also a part of the legal service committee of his college. During his college days, a school was to be established in a nearby village. He contacted the concerned authorities but received no response from them. After a wait of two months, an IPS officer arrived, analyzed the situation and gave his orders to begin the construction work for the school.

Vasu Jain was truly inspired to see the impact the officer had on the authorities. This single incident made him realize where his interests lay and what he was meant to do.

Preparations for UPSC

The path to clearing the UPSC exams is never easy. It takes immense dedication and hours and hours of daily and consistent preparation. In the year 2018, Vasu Jain appeared for the exams and could not even clear the preliminary round. In 2019, he made it to the interview round but could not make it past that.

Two continuous years of disappointment can make anyone doubt their capabilities. It is not a race but in this fast-paced society, when your friends follow the same old path and secure top jobs with top packages and you are left being haunted by your insecure future, your dreams can be left tainted. Everyone’s life would be so much better if they were not subjected to constant scrutiny and judgement.

However, braving though all the failures and disappointments, Vasu Jain finally passed the UPSC 2020 exam with an impressive 67th rank and was appointed as an IAS. Presently, he is posted in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

The success mantra

Vasu shares that sooner or later; perseverance and hard work always pays off. You cannot alter the past so look ahead courageously and do whatever you can to accomplish you dreams. Furthermore, Vasu shares that he gained immense knowledge during his preparation. He recognized his mistakes and corrected them with much understanding. Seek support from your friends and family, stay inspired and eventually, success will come your way.
