Delhi: Persevering for one’s passion is in itself one of the greatest achievements in the world. Uday Bhatia, a class 12 student from Delhi, has accomplished such a great feat that through his invention he is helping thousands of people in need.

An incident that changed Uday’s life

After completing his class 12 board exams in April 2022, Uday Bhatia visited the Bichpuri village in Uttar Pradesh. He interacted with young kids of the village and found them enthusiastic to pursue their studies. However, he learned that power cut was a serious issue in the area which prevented these students from studying regularly. Uday understood the distress of the villagers and went back to Delhi to develop a solution.

Making an inverter bulb

Brimming with enthusiasm to help underprivileged students, Uday decided to create something innovative. He invented an inverter bulb that provides power backup for up to 10 hours. He was aware that because of the poor economic conditions of the households, it was impossible for the villagers to afford inverters, which is why he came up with the concept of inverter bulbs.

Online resources and informative videos on YouTube helped him acquire knowledge about creating bulbs and inverters. After doing his thorough research, Uday created a model using lithium-ion batteries, but the bulb could only provide a backup of 4 hours. He learned that reducing the brightness of the bulbs helps in stretching the power backup hours.

Beginning of a startup

Uday was able to create a successful model of the bulb and set the price of one bulb at Rs 250. The products have one year warranty as well. He launched his startup with an investment of Rs 30,000 and used a catchy tagline ‘Bijli Gul Phir Bhi Ujala Full.’ He made an effort to meet the villagers and farmers to promote his products. Today, he has sold more than 7000 bulbs.

Receiving awards

Uday’s products are rechargeable and especially attract labourers and people living in the slum areas. Most customers charge the bulbs during the day and use them at nights. Uday Bhatia has been honoured with the Diana Award 2023 for his innovative concept of inverter bulbs. He aspires to create tube lights to help the factory workers.
