Gujarat: Anuya Trivedi, a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, along with her husband is dedicated to making swings for young children from underprivileged backgrounds so they can have playful childhood experiences too. While working a full-time job, she had always been inclined towards helping others. She found it challenging to allocate time for the less fortunate due to her job in the pharmaceutical industry and decided to quit her job and entirely devote herself to helping the poor.

Who is Anuya Trivedi?

Anuya Trivedi worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years. Today, she makes swings for underprivileged children from recycled tyres. She shared an incident from her past that prompted her to get involved in this work. During celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries, Anuya and her husband would visit orphanages or Anganwadi centres, distributing gifts to those in need. On one such occasion, the couple noticed the absence of swings for children.

She decided to devote her time for the same task and took time off from work. She repurposed an old tyre, made a swing from it, and installed it at the centre. When she introduced the swings to the kids, they immediately ran to the swings to have some fun. Witnessing the sheer delight on the children’s faces inspired Anuya to continue her endeavours.

Raising funds

Anuya’s innovative swings gained popularity, attracting attention from nearby schools. Notably, Prahlad Nagar’s slum school reached out to Anuya, requesting her assistance in making swings for the children, as the school lacked financial assistance. To fund the project, she organized a fundraising campaign, and received support from the community. She collected necessary materials to make the playing fields for the children’s enjoyment.

Green Buddies

After successfully achieving the task of making a playing area in the slums, Anuya made the bold decision of resigning from her job. She established a small startup called Green Buddies, that is dedicated to creating playing areas in government and trust schools using recycled tyres. With the support of her husband, she expanded her initiative and now serves as the coordinator of over 40 schools. She often collaborates with servicing workshops to obtain tyres, and sometimes receives them at no extra cost.

Holistic development

In addition to the swings, Anuya paints educational murals on plain school walls. She also encourages children to engage in plantation activities. Anuya’s dedication to environmental sustainability and educational enhancement has earned her the prestigious Global Recycling Award. Her initiative has extended beyond Ahmedabad to schools in Kanpur, Bangalore, and Delhi.
