In her second marriage, she faced domestic abuse, mental torture and even suffered physical violence during pregnancy. However, she gathered courage one day to break free from the life of humiliation. Today, Sapna is a Senior HR Manager in a reputable company, successfully raising her child as a single parent.

Who is Sapna Tamta?

Sapna Tamta is a resident of Uttarakhand. She completed her schooling in the year 2006 and enrolled in an air hostess programme at Delhi Air Hostess Academy. During the same time, she also completed her graduation. In the year 2013, Sapna got married with her then boyfriend with the consent of her parents. Life seemed to be going well until an unexpected event changed the course of her life.

A tragic accident

Sapna Tamta shares that during the time of her sister’s wedding, she had plans of relocating to the UK with her husband. The couple decided to spend time with their family before the move. While enjoying the wedding festivities in Pithoragarh, a sudden snowfall struck. Her husband and cousin tragically lost their lives in a car accident. At the age of 24, Sapna found herself a widow.

Second marriage

In the year 2017, Sapna Tamta found herself a job as a Senior Recruitment Manager in Gurgaon and crossed paths with her second husband. He was a divorcee. Initially, life went smoothly for a month, and things seemed to be returning on track. However, her life got complicated when her mother-in-law returned from the US.

Domestic violence

Sapna shares that she faced humiliation from her mother-in-law. She was prohibited from going to the temple and touching anything else. She was relegated to household chores like a servant after long workdays, and her life lost its comfort. The situation worsened as she accused of having an affair with her father-in-law and being infertile due to her inability to conceive. Things spiralled out of control and Sapna found it difficult to cope with everything.

When Sapna’s parents learned about her condition, they insisted the couple to move to Ghaziabad. Despite changing houses, the harassment continued over the phone. In January 2020, Sapna got pregnant and thought that this news would bring joy to the family. Instead, questions were raised on her character. She was advised by the doctor to take bed rest, but her family forced her to do physically straining household chores.

Phase during the pandemic

The lockdown imposed strict restrictions on Sapna’s lifestyle, causing mental trauma. It became difficult to even communicate with her mother and brothers over the phone as her husband eavesdropped on the conversations. Thoughts of committing suicide came into her mind. When the doctor recommended some medications and diet plans, her husband physically assaulted her for the expensive costs. In her frail condition, her husband threw her out of the house. She had a premature delivery and welcomed a son in her life.

Starting a new life

Sapna received support from her family, and despite facing taunts from people, she stood strong, proving her capability as a single parent. During the same time, she joined an NGO, where she met several other women with similar experiences. Presently, Sapna teaches children at the NGO and also works as a Senior HR Manager. She is an inspiration for every woman who faces violence in her marriage and encourages them to start their lives afresh.
