New Delhi: Vinod Saraf is counted among one of the richest people of India. Born in a family of Rajasthan, he acquired his business acumen from his family business and got high-level jobs in multinational companies. However, he had always dreamt of opening his own establishment. Vinod Saraf resigned from the position of a CEO and established a company worth Rs 20,000 crore.

Vinod Saraf’s background

Vinod Saraf was the youngest among his seven siblings. His enthusiasm for his studies and excelling in all aspects of life were apparent from a young age. At the age of 17, Vinod completed his graduate studies. By 19, he had an MBA degree from BITS Pilani; he had also earned a gold medal for his extraordinary performance. Despite facing language barriers, he remained resolute and prospered in his professional career.

Working with Aditya Birla

Reports suggest that Vinod Saraf worked in textile companies for almost a decade. This helped him gain valuable experience which earned him a job at Birla company. He worked with Aditya Birla and was promoted to the role of MAD of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited. He also holds significant positions in Grasim Industries, Modern Syntax, and Bhilwara Group. 

Launching Vinati Organics

At the age of 38, when Vinod Saraf had made a name for himself in the business world, he decided to launch his own business. In the year 1989, he laid the foundation of a company that manufactured isopropyl benzene, a chemical that is used in the production of ibuprofen pain relief tablets. The company was named after Vinod Saraf’s daughter, Vinati Saraf. Presently, she is the MD and CEO of the company. Vinati Organics is counted among the world’s largest manufacturers of ibuprofen.

India’s new billionaire

According to Forbes, Vinod Saraf’s company has a market capitalization of around Rs 20,014 crore; and he has a net worth of over Rs 15,000 crore. In the year 2019, he was honoured with the Hurun India Self-made Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He was ranked 96th in Forbes India list of 2022. He is ranked 1674th in the Global Billionaire list of 2023.
