Jaunpur: Lakhs of students appear for the UPSC exams particularly with the hope of becoming IAS and IPS officers. A village in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh holds a unique distinction of boasting 51 civil servants. The success stories of people from this village serve as an inspiration to many youth aspiring to join the civil services, despite the challenges that UPSC examinations come with. 

Madhopatti village

Madhopatti village in Jaunpur is remarkable for having administrative officers in almost every family. People from far and wide visit the village to understand the social landscape and the unique environment that has led to its reputation as a factory of civil servants. Previously, the village had a Gram Panchayat which has now been transformed into a Nagar Panchayat. 

Madhopatti’s first IFS officer 

The history of village’s achievements goes back to 1952. Five years after independence, Dr Induprakash, a resident of the village, secured a remarkable second rank in the UPSC exams. He received appointment in the Indian Foreign Service and served as an ambassador in several countries including France. 

Dr Induprakash’s family

All four of Dr Induprakash’s brothers also joined the administrative service. Vinay Kumar Singh made history by securing the 13th rank in the UPSC exam in 1955, and later served as the Chief Secretary of Bihar. Chhatrasal Singh became an IAS officer in 1964 and went on to become the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. Ajay Singh joined the civil services in the same year. In the year 1968, Shashikant Singh became an IAS officer.

Inspiring the youth

The inspiring story of Singh brothers was so strong that the youth started pursuing UPSC exam. What’s even more remarkable is that Dr Induprakash’s son Yashasvi secured the 31st rank in the UPSC exam in 2000. Additionally, Amitabh Singh from the family was also selected for the Indian Foreign Service, adding to the legacy of the village. 

More achievements

There are 75 families in Madhopatti village. Among the villagers, 40 are IAS officers, and others are employed in PCS and various other services. This legacy also extends to the daughters and daughters-in-law of the village, who have also achieved significant positions in government services. 

Scientists from the village

 Madhopatti village has not only produced bureaucrats but also notable scientists and professionals. Among them are Janmajay Singh, who works at the World Bank, Dr Neeru Singh and Lalendra Pratab Singh, scientists at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and Dr Gyanu Mishra, a scientist at ISRO. Another villager, Devendra Nath Singh served as the Information Director of Gujarat.
