Tamil Nadu: Loganathan was born into a humble family; his father worked as a labourer and the family lived off his daily wages. He had to discontinue his education after class 6th because it was just financially impossible to pay the school fees. He started working as an apprentice with electrical workers and learned some skills there.

He was desperate to receive more education but couldn’t. But he made sure to provide his son and daughter with better educational opportunities and pursue their dreams. His daughter is currently completing her graduation while, his son is pursuing MBA. He has never made his children miss out on chances that they rightfully deserve.

Loganathan is aware of the social conditions of poor children, and how their inability to study because of their poor economic backgrounds leaves them disappointed. Even with his low income, his sole aim is to put a smile on children’s faces by giving them books.

The welding shop

Loganathan initially worked at somebody’s electrical shop while also doing a part-time job. The owner did not like this and often threatened to kick him out of his job. Saving up some money, Loganathan decided to open a welding shop of his own.

He runs his shop to support his family and along with that cleans toilets of private companies to donate the money to orphanages and schools. He spends whatever amount of money he can on poor children’s education. He buys them books, pens and stationary items to motivate them to become better people.

Loganathan believes that for studying, a peaceful and proper environment is required at home. He is aware that poor children don’t get to experience such environments. They are minds are constantly troubled with matters that they should not be concerned about at this young age. And he is determined to give them the best he can from his side.

His family did not appreciate the idea of working as a cleaner in private companies but Loganathan felt no shame in it. His family members and neighbours rebuked him but he did let not anyone’s harsh comments tarnish his hope of being a social worker.

He asserts that cleaning toilets is a basic cleaning task of keeping our surroundings hygienic, there’s nothing to be ashamed about and it certainly is not a crime.

Loganathan’s hourly rate was Rs 50 for cleaning toilets and now he makes up to Rs. 2500. All of his savings from his part time job goes in the betterment of poor children.

Helping almost 3000 children

When in the year 2002, Loganathan began his part time job, he used to manage his finances himself to buy clothes, and books for children in need. Currently, he collects over Rs 10,000 a year and hands over the sum to the district collector to make donations to the government orphanage.

Through his efforts, he has been able to help almost 3000 children to have access to proper education. His noble service has been appreciated by many government workers and he has been felicitated at district and state levels for his social service.

Loganathan hopes to open a charitable educational trust in service of the poor children of Tamil Nadu. He wishes to make sure that no child misses out on their chance of having a better life. After completion of their studies, Loganathan expects his son and the daughter to help him carry forward his ideas of helping the underprivileged children.
