Nagpur: Suraj Kalvade is a resident of Nagpur, Maharashtra. After the completion of his studies, the world offered him limited to no job opportunities. His physical disability made him an ideal candidate to face frequent rejections. Despite facing the cruelty of the world, Suraj did not lose hope for a better life. For the past two and a half years, he has been making a living by selling samosas. 

Suraj Kalvade’s education

Suraj Kalvade holds a BSc degree from Nagpur University. He faced incredible disappointment after facing rejections from several companies. He tried looking for work in shops but could not find a suitable employment opportunity for himself. He discussed the matter with his family, and they suggested him to start selling samosas with his father. 

A dream

Despite facing challenges due to a disability since childhood, Suraj is determined to pursue a career. Presently, he is preparing for competitive exams in banking, railways, and other fields as well. He is aware of the challenges that civil services come with, but he is determined to not let his disability hinder his growth. 

Suraj has done certification courses in computer, hardware, and telecommunication. His ability to gain different skills and the willingness to brave through every difficult situation, demonstrate his resilience and a positive outlook on life. 

Working with father

Suraj’s father used to work as a cook, however, he lost his job and found himself unable to find a living. Suraj took the initiative and urged his father to help him with his samosa-selling endeavour. He suggested his father to prepare samosas and himself took the opportunity to selling them. In the evening, one can find Suraj selling the savoury snacks in Sadar Bazar and Gaddi Godam area of Nagpur. 

Rising through challenges

Suraj shares that he has now been able to overcome the challenges he faced with selling samosas. He sells one piece for Rs 15 with delicious chutneys and onions. His daily sales range from 60 to 70 plates. Suraj is committed to serving high quality snacks. He has even installed a speaker on his wheelchair to attract more customers.
