Kaushambi: Recently, a YouTube channel with the name ‘English with Dehati Madam’ has been making waves across various social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X). Notably, this channel is run by a rural woman, Yashoda Lodhi, who encourages people to learn and speak English for better communication skills. Let’s delve into her journey of becoming a teacher.

Who is Yashoda?

Yashoda Lodhi was born into a poor family, where her parents did not encourage her to pursue studies. She was raised by her aunt, who helped her secure school education till grade 12. Despite her schooling in Hindi medium schools, Yashoda began teaching children and later enrolled in college for graduation. Her husband made Rs 300 working as a labourer.

Facing challenges

Yashoda met her husband during her college studies. The two decided to get married but their families disapproved of their union. Yashoda and her husband got married against their parents’ wish and began living separately. Two years into the marriage, her husband suffered injuries from an accident, following which, it became difficult to make the ends meet. The two were burdened with significant debts.

Beginning of something new

Yashoda shares that in 2021, she discovered Sandeep Maheswari’s YouTube channel after she purchased her first mobile phone. She watched a video where she gained the knowledge about earning money from home. Despite having limited knowledge about mobile technology, she began learning English through YouTube videos.

She embarked on her YouTube journey on 26 December 2022, and published a video, which did not gain much attention. Undeterred, she continued uploading more content. Soon, Yashoda’s English-speaking videos went viral, and motivated by this, she decided to continue sharing more educational content.

Success of Dehati Madam

Yashoda recorded her first video in a field, addressing the topic of overcoming the fear of speaking English. The video quickly gained popularity, and her audience began recognizing her as ‘Dehati Madam.’ Yashoda gave her first earnings from her videos to her in-laws. Today, she makes Rs 1,00,000 per month from YouTube channel. With her success, she has managed to clear all debts and has taken on the responsibility of supporting her family.
