Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is currently working on constructing India’s first space station called Bharatiya Antariksha Station. It is a colossal task and may take a lot of time, but it will be a great achievement for the country and will push it ahead in the global space exploration race. The ambitious goal is to have an active space station by 2035. But it is achievable. ISRO Chief S. Somanath hinted that the first module of the space station might be launched in the upcoming years.

If the mission goes successfully, then India will become the fourth nation to have its independent space station after Russia, the United States of America, and China. More on the technical details, the space station will weigh around 20 tonnes with the potential to expand by up to 400 tonnes. It will have a capacity for 2 to 4 astronauts and is planned to be placed in the low Earth orbit.

This will be a huge milestone for the country and a big step towards space exploration and development. Here let’s take a look at some of the benefits of establishing an independent space station for India and what it means in the long run.

Technological Advancement

Establishing a space station is no easy task. It requires a lot of brilliant minds and cutting-edge technology. With the construction of this space station, India’s technological advancements will be enhanced in several fields like robotics, life support systems, aerospace engineering, and materials science.

Human Spaceflight Program

Having independent space research enables India to train its astronauts, aircraft testing and many other advancements. India's space station will be a stepping stone for all future missions and projects.

Scientific Research

It might be a great opportunity to conduct research in different fields and learn more about microgravity, astronomy, medicine, biology, fundamental physics and more. These new researches can lead to discoveries and be an overall positive for the country.

International Collaborations

It also opens doors to possibilities of having an international collaboration with other nations and promotes healthy relationships and sharing of knowledge and technology.

National Prestige and Leadership

Having an international space station brings prestige as it makes India one of the most advanced countries with an international space station. It demonstrates India’s power and potential when it comes to space and makes it a leader of space exploration for the betterment of humanity.
