Bengaluru: An RTI activist on Monday claimed that the Karnataka Congress government had spent Rs 17.65 crore to celebrate ‘jayanthis’ (birth anniversaries) of several leaders in the state but failed to provide enough proof on the expenditure.

A Right To Information (RTI) query revealed that the Congress government, which was in power from 2013 to 2018 in Karnataka, had spent crores of rupees celebrating ‘jayanthis’ but no records have been maintained, RTI activist Marilinge Gowda Maali Patil said. Patil also filed a complaint on the same to the state chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar to look into the matter.
