Ishwar Gurjar, a resident of Bhilwara, Rajasthan, was not a bright student in his school years. He failed in class 10 board exams and lost the interest to continue his education. Being the first in his family to complete school education, he embarked on the path of preparing for competitive exams. He faced failures in his first three UPSC attempts and ultimately secured 555th rank in the 2023 exams.

Education

Ishwar Gurjar was born in a lower-middle class family. His father, Suwalal Gurjar, works as a farmer, while his mother, Sukhi Devi, is a homemaker. When he failed in class 10, he lost interest in studies and wanted to find work instead of continuing his school education. However, his father provided crucial support during this difficult phase. Eventually, he passed class 12 board exams with 68 percent marks.

UPSC journey

After earning his degree from MDS University, he joined a government school as a teacher in 2019. Meanwhile, he also began preparing for competitive exams. He appeared for the UPSC exams for the first time in 2019 and could not succeed in it. Even after reaching the interview stage in 2020, he did not secure a place in the merit list. The third attempt in 2021 also resulted in failure. Finally, he achieved success in his fourth attempt in the year 2022, securing the 644th rank and earning a place in the IRS cadre. He did not stop at that, and gave his fifth attempt in 2023, this time, securing the 555th rank in UPSC.

IPS dreams

Presently, Ishwar Gurjar is undergoing IRS training in Nagpur. With his recent achievement in UPSC 2023, he hopes to earn a position as IPS officer. Reflecting on his journey, he shared on social media that being resilient in the face of adversity determines our future. Furthermore, he also highlighted the idea that failure in an exam does not equate to failure in life. Our ability to persevere and overcome setbacks is what defines us.
