Chikkamagaluru: Karnataka water resources minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar performed special puja on Monday morning (June 6) at Sri Rishya Shringeshwara temple in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka praying for rain in the state.

Earlier, the state Muzrai Department had directed temples under its purview to conduct religious rituals (Parjanya Japa) to appease the rain god as several parts of Karnataka have been reeling under the effect of drought without sufficient water to drink.

Each temple will be given Rs 10,001 to spend on these special prayers for rain. There are over 34,000 temples under the Muzrai Department in the state.
