Chennai:  The parched city of Chennai has got respite from water scarcity after the special train carrying 50,000 litres per wagon made two trips to the city.

The special train travelled from Jolarpettai, located 217 km away from Chennai brought the city its much-needed water sourced from a river.

Chennai has faced water scarcity, so much so that some schools were forced shut, companies had asked employees to work from home, and hotels to ration water for guests.

Bad water management and lack of rainfall mean all four reservoirs that supply Chennai have run virtually dry this summer. Other Indian cities, including the capital New Delhi and technology hub Bengaluru, are also grappling with water shortage.
