Buoyed by the bonhomie generated by the two informal summits between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, India-China relations managed to maintain a "sound momentum" in 2019, notwithstanding the serious differences over issues like Kashmir and the UN designation of a terror group leader based in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the time has changed and the policies on Kashmir will now be made solely by the people of India and Kashmir without the interference of Pakistan. Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong has stated that China wants India and Pakistan to join hands. China stressed that it sincerely look forward to good relations between China and India, China and Pakistan as well as India and Pakistan, he added. India has consistently maintained that talks and terror cannot go hand in hand.
