After 6 years of tragedy, the Supreme Court has upheld the death penalty to four of Nirbhaya rape case convicts. They were seeking a reduction of their death sentence to a life term.

In a landmark judgement, a three-judge bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra and Justices R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan scrapped the pleas saying there is no ground to reconsider the verdict. The fourth death row convict, Akshay Kumar Singh had not filed a review petition.

Nirbhaya’s parents are happy with the Supreme court's judgement.

Earlier, in 2013, Ram Singh had allegedly committed suicide in Delhi's Tihar jail during the trial. The sixth accused, a minor was sentenced to three years’ term at a probation home.
