With the hartal called by Hindu groups on January 3 following the entry of two women into Sabarimala, the governor of Kerala had asked the chief minister to submit a report. Pinarayi Vijayan’s report blamed Sangh Parivar of planned attacks.
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan briefed Governor P Sathasivam on the incidents of violence in the state following the entry of two young women into the Sabarimala temple. Pinarayi Vijayan had a meeting with Sathasivam at Raj Bhavan on January 10.
The report submitted by Vijayan suggests that of the 10,561 accused of inciting violence in the state, 9,489 of them belong to the Sangh Parivar.
Vijayan stated that a detailed report has been given on the planned attacks by Sangh Parivar organisations after the Supreme Court verdict and when the temple was opened.
According to the report, when the temple was initially opened, about 30 women were stopped by protestors, of which five were women journalists. This is a violation of the Supreme Court order. The report also listed the attacks on women devotees, media personnel and police personnel.
The report also stated that there is a conspiracy to create communal tension. CDs of several instances and pictures circulated on social media allegedly promoting enmity between different groups were submitted as part of the report. As per sources, the hartal on January 3 alone cost a loss of Rs 2.32 crore.
Earlier on January 3, the governor had sought an urgent report from Vijayan on the disturbances during the 12-hour state-wide shutdown called by Hindu groups and supported by the BJP.
Meanwhile, Sathasivam had intimated Union home minister Rajnath Singh of the law and order situation in Kerala.
The chief minister explained the nature of the disturbance and the action taken to control the violent protests in different parts of the state. He also assured the governor that stringent action would be initiated against those involved in the violent incidents, irrespective of party affiliation.
Vijayan also discussed the progress of the rehabilitation of the flood-affected people and other important matters of the state.
