Celebrated globally on March 8, International Women's Day honors women's contributions to society, politics, and cultural life in a variety of fields as well as their accomplishments, challenges, and right to gender equality. On International Women's Day, people show their support for women in their life by doing kind and thoughtful things for each other.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) claims that labor movements in North America and Europe during the 20th century gave rise to International Women's Day. On February 28, 1909, the United States celebrated the inaugural National Woman's Day in remembrance of the 1908 New York garment workers' strike, in which women demonstrated against oppressive working conditions.

International Women's Day gained widespread recognition after the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in 1977. Nations were urged to declare March 8 as an official UN holiday in support of women's rights and global peace.

Why do we celebrate it?
The purpose of International Women's Day is to promote gender equality and build a more inclusive society without any gender stereotypes. In addition to celebrating women, the day raises awareness of topics including rights related to reproduction, violence against women, and equal rights for women.

It provides a chance to motivate initiatives aimed at achieving gender equality and putting an end to discrimination and bias against women.

Every year, International Women's Day has a different themes. "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" is the theme for 2024. Its goal is to address economic disempowerment. Diversity and empowerment are important in all facets of society, as the campaign theme Empower Inclusion highlights.

It demands action to remove obstacles, clarify myths, and provide settings where every woman is recognized and cherished. It demands action to remove obstacles, clarify myths, and provide settings where every woman is recognized and cherished.
