As the temperatures during summer months begin to rise, it becomes crucial to take measures to ensure your car’s performance and safety on the roads. From managing tyre pressure to monitoring car’s temperature, let’s learn about some practical methods to maintain your car’s efficiency in the summer heat.

Car parking

Always park your car, motorcycle, or any other vehicle in a shaded area. Ensure that at least half of the vehicle remains under the shade. This will prevent the unnecessary heating of the car’s metal body, allowing the air conditioning system to function properly.

Air pressure in tyres

During the hot summer season, it becomes crucial to pay extra attention to the tyres. High temperatures can cause the air pressure inside the tyres to increase due to friction and heat generated while driving. Excessive heat can also cause the tyres to burst which can be dangerous. Therefore, it’s advisable to maintain the correct air pressure in the tyres.

Being careful

Refrain from keeping flammable items such as lighters, perfumes, petrol, hand sanitizer, or any alcohol-based liquids in the car, as these items pose a risk of combustion.

Servicing

Take your cars for regular servicing especially during summer. Changing the oil can improve performance, and if needed, topping up the AC gas can ensure optimal cooling efficiency.

Temperature metre

Never forget to monitor your car’s temperature metre during the summer months. If the display indicates a reading of over 50%, then take your car to a mechanic. It the number exceeds 70%, refrain from driving as it could pose a risk of fire.

How much fuel

During summer, it is best to avoid filling the fuel tank of your car to maximum capacity. Keep it around 90% full, this extra space will allow for the expansion of gas that may happen when the metal tank heats up.

Car accessories

Car accessories like sun guards or sun films help in avoiding overheating. They will significantly reduce the temperature, ensuring a more comfortable driving experience.
