Bengaluru: Sumalatha, the wife of actor-turned-politician Ambareesh paid a visit to former chief minister and senior BJP leader SM Krishna at his residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru. Incidentally, when BJP leader R Ashoka had met SM Krishna four days ago, he had informed him that Sumalatha would be meeting me.

On the issue of Sumalatha being given a BJP ticket from Mandya, SM Krishna remained non-committal and said he would speak to the top brass of the BJP and inform the media later. He, however, added that Siddaramaiah, the BJP’S candidate from Mandya (in the bypolls held in November) had secured 2.5 lakh votes in spite of the party not taking the bypolls seriously. But, he added, Sumalatha must come clean on her decision quickly.

On her part, Sumalatha maintained that the meet with SM Krishna wasn’t just political. She had visited SM Krishna as he was a fatherly figure and sought his blessings for her Mandya candidacy.

On the hottest topic of family or dynasty politics as practiced by the Deve Gowda family, SM Krishna reiterated that he would oppose family politics.

While Ambareesh is physically no more with us, his name sure has a lot of weight which the candidates are using to garner votes. Sumalatha said the usage of his name was inevitable as Mandya and Ambareesh were synonymous.

Moving from the issue of Mandya polls, SM Krishna also took a jibe at Mahagathbandhan, saying it was nothing but a laughing stock. He added that Modi had performed phenomenally well in the last five years and that his performance was there for everyone to see.

Lampooning the Congress for its abysmal performance in the last few elections, SM Krishna said the party has lost national significance. To prove his point, he said the SP and the BSP had sidelined Congress in the Uttar Pradesh pre-poll alliance.
