Srishti Sharma is the world’s first ice limbo skater and only at the age of 18. She proudly represents her country in international championships and currently holds seven Guinness world records under her name.

The struggle of becoming a world champion was full of obstacles but she conquered all the hurdles. Her achievements drive her to keep moving forward.

Kicked out of the ring in her first championship

Born in a small village of Nagpur, Srishti’s beginnings were humble. She was only five when she participated in a skating championship for the first time. Then, her father worked as a driver to support his family.

Srishti’s family had been extremely supportive and encouraged her to take skating lessons. But she was only a child and in her first competition, she was forced to leave the ring because of her lack of speed. This insensitivity stung at Srishti’s heart, and she decided to work hard to outshine everyone.

Learning about limbo skating

In 2012, Srishti learned about limbo skating while watching television. The sport attracted her and she became determined to become a limbo skater. With her father’s approval, she began on the journey of becoming a world record holder.

A loan of Rs 7 lakh

Due to financial constraints, Srishti’s father had to take a loan of Rs 7 lakh to support the expenses related to skating. Her father saw the EMI payments as steps to give his daughter the best taste of success. Srishti could not have become the person she is without her father cheering for her at all stages of her life.

She shares that when she first went to the training school, she could not participate with the others because she did not have any roller skate blades. At that time, her mother used her creativity and made her skate blades using old shoes and metal scraps.

Breaking her own records

Srishti did not disappoint her parents’ dedication towards her. Her sincerity and obedience for her work led her to make several world records before she even turned 18. In August 2013, she set a world record by completing 3016 meters in limbo skating and in 2015, she crossed the height of 17 cm breaking the old-world record.

Srishti continued tirelessly with her practice and in 2021, she broke her own record and set a new with 6.94 seconds. As per the Guinness World Record committee, Srishti skated under 51 horizontal poles, placed at different heights, without touching any one of them.

Leg injuries

Once during practice, Srishti injured her leg and had to get four stitches. This was not a discouragement for her. After taking a break from limbo skating, Srishti started playing roller hockey. Her newfound interest in hockey made her participate in the 25th Maharashtra Roller Skating Hockey Championship. She won a bronze medal there.

Qualifying NEET alongside skating

Srishti’s potential cannot be described in words. She is not only an outstanding achiever at sports but she has performed extraordinarily in her studies as well. Along with her practice, she paid utmost attention to her education and secured 516 marks in NEET results. Srishti aspires to become a doctor in her future.
