Indian summers are hard to beat. The days are longer and hotter with no option but to succumb to the giant ball of heat in the sky. The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been regularly posting tips and effective ways to protect against heat and spreading awareness to encourage people to stay healthy during the intense summer.

The Ministry made a post on X (formerly Twitter) providing tips for summer to 'beat the heat'. The caption states, "Tips for a cool summer: Hydration, Sun Protection, and Healthy Choices. Beat the heat with essential do’s and don'ts to keep summer cool and safe!"

Here are some tips to stay cool during the day:

  • Dress appropriately: Wear light-coloured cotton clothes and protect your head from intense sun. Lightweight and loose-fitted clothes are the best options for summer.
  • Stay hydrated: Make sure you drink plenty of water and keep your body hydrated, especially during travelling.
  • Stay indoors or seek shade: If possible, stay indoors and prevent going out during the day. If you must go out, try to seek shade to protect yourself from direct sun.
  • Drink ORS and homemade drinks: Restore the levels of electrolytes in your body by drinking ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) or homemade beverages like lemonade to stay fit.
  • Eat water-rich fruits and vegetables: Consuming water-rich fruits and vegetables can keep the body hydrated and provide essential nutrients to combat heat.

You can enjoy a safe and cool summer this year by following these tips.
