The number of scam calls is rising day by day, with many people falling victim to scammers posing as officials to extort money out of innocent people.

One such incident occurred in Jammu and Kashmir, where a fraudster has been impersonating a Director-General Police (DGP) and calling people threatening them with fabricated scenarios to demand money.

The Jammu and Kashmir police have alerted the citizens about the scammer and made a post on X (formerly Twitter) to spread the word and urge people to stay vigilant against these criminals.

The post stated, "This is to convey fellow police officers, colleagues from other government services, departments and members of the general public that a fraudster (who is being identified) is using a mobile phone number 8891979985 and is falsely posing as Sh R R Swain DGP J&K. This fraduster is asking money from different people including colleague police officers who he thinks can fall into his trap. While legal action under law is underway, friends, colleagues and even relatives are requested to be vigilant about this person as well as such persons in future."

The officials later provided an update on the situation on X, stating, "FIR No.8/2024 U/S 66C, 66D read with sec 384, 419, 420 of IPC registered at Cyber PS Jammu. SP Cyber Police Jammu Zone is supervising the investigation."

People online are furious and are demanding strict action against these cybercriminals. One user commented, "Such criminals should be dealt with iron hands."
