Social media has changed the way a lot of individuals live their lives. Unknowingly, many of us make decisions influenced by what we see on the internet and over social media platforms.

Cred and Freecharge founder, Kunal Shah, recently made a post on X (formerly Twitter) discussing the effects of social media and how it makes people feel poor. He wrote, "Participation in get rich schemes/lottery is more pronounced in those who are poor. Social media makes everyone feel poor as it’s easy to look at life of rich and famous 24/7. It’s not surprising to see everyone falling for get rich schemes now as everyone feels poor."

The post got several comments from various people online, giving their two cents on the topic. One user wrote, "The paradox of our times - while objectively richer than ever before, the perception of relative poverty is driving many to gamble what they can't afford to lose on long-shot lotteries and schemes, all in pursuit of an elusive mirage of wealth constantly paraded online."

While many users agreed with Kunal's opinion of social media and big platforms making people feel poor and making them get involved in 'get rich' schemes, some also criticised Kunal for contributing to the problem.

One user commented, "So true, people are playing slot machines on CRED so they can get 777, which obviously is a get rich quickly scam. So who knows better than you about it as you have the usage details," talking about the 'get rich' offer run by Kunal's company.
