Kiran Rao, known for her work in Indian cinema and her relationship with actor Aamir Khan, recently shed light on their romantic journey and addressed misconceptions surrounding their relationship. Contrary to popular belief, Rao clarified that her involvement with Khan did not begin during the production of the acclaimed film 'Lagaan.'

In a candid interview, Rao revealed that she and Khan started dating in 2004, which was several years after the release of 'Lagaan.' She emphasized that during the filming of 'Lagaan,' she had minimal interaction with Khan and was actually involved with someone else at the time.

Their connection, according to Rao, blossomed during the production of the film 'Swades,' where Khan was preparing for his role in 'Mangal Pandey.' It was during this period that they reconnected after working together on commercials with director Ashutosh Gowariker.

Addressing rumors suggesting that her relationship with Khan was a factor in his divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta, Rao dismissed such speculations. She stressed that their relationship began well after Khan's separation from Dutta and highlighted the importance of couples counseling in navigating the complexities of their respective past relationships.

Rao shared insights into their approach to maintaining a healthy relationship, underscoring the significance of honesty and open communication. She advocated for couples counseling as a neutral platform for addressing individual needs and fostering mutual understanding.

Despite their eventual marriage in 2005, Rao and Khan announced their separation in 2001. However, they continue to maintain an amicable relationship, evident in their recent collaboration as co-producers on the project 'Laapataa Ladies.'
