Divya Dutta, who currently has a following of 4,93,000 fans on the micro-blogging website, tweeted on Thursday night (12 July), “Aiyyo what happened Twitter… A sudden drop of thousands of followers in one hour! (sic).” The actress previously had roughly around 5 lakh followers on Twitter.

According to Amrita Tripathi from Twitter, India, "We are in the process of cleaning fake accounts from Twitter, therefore, you will see a drop in your followers." She also added, "Twitter is deleting accounts to reduce fake news that has been circulating on social media."

This is not the first time a celebrity has lost followers on the micro-blogging site. At the start of the year, Amitabh Bachchan also accused Twitter of cutting down the number of his followers. In fact, many famous Twitter users across the globe lost more than a million followers as federal and state agencies in the US started investigating shadowy agencies that sell fake followers.

On the work front, Divya will next be seen in Fanney Khan, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. The film is an official remake of the Belgian movie, Everybody’s Famous!
