This dominance is further underscored by the company's expansive regional reach; currently, SAFL records its highest sales in Kerala, with its burgeoning success in Tamil Nadu following closely behind.
In the competitive landscape of Tamil Nadu's spirits industry, Southern Agrifurane Industries Private Limited (SAFL) stands out as a formidable leader, especially in the medium-segment vodka category. As consumer tastes evolve toward bold flavor profiles and unwavering quality, SAFL's flagship MGM Vodka lineup has seized a commanding market share.
Let's dive deeper with Anand Muthu, Managing Director of MGM Group, SAFL's visionary Director and architect of the MGM Vodka success story. With over two decades steering innovation in the spirits sector, Muthu has championed flavor-forward strategies that resonate with modern drinkers.
SAFL has emerged as a formidable leader in the competitive Tamil Nadu spirits industry, particularly within the medium-segment vodka category. As consumer preferences shift toward diverse flavor profiles and consistent quality, SAFL’s flagship MGM Vodka portfolio, comprising Orange, Apple, and Plain variants has captured a significant portion of the market.
Building on this success, the company introduced GOVA Vodka in July 2025, a guava-flavored spirit that recorded sales of approximately 3,600 cases in its first month. Available in 750 ml, 375 ml, and 180 ml sizes, GOVA's smooth and refreshing profile has quickly gained popularity among consumers, strengthening SAFL’s presence across the state.
This dominance is further underscored by the company's expansive regional reach; currently, SAFL records its highest sales in Kerala, with its burgeoning success in Tamil Nadu following closely behind. This multi-state growth reflects a strategic mastery of Southern India's unique market dynamics.
“Success in the spirits industry is not built on a single launch, but on the relentless pursuit of consistency and a deep-seated respect for the consumer's palate,” says Anand Muthu.
“At SAFL, we believe that high quality is the baseline, but the real magic happens when you truly understand what people want. By listening to the evolving preferences of our patrons and delivering a product that never wavers in excellence, we haven’t just grown a brand, we have earned a permanent place at the table of our consumers’ celebrations.”
Past few years have been a period of remarkable growth and consolidation for SAFL. Over a three-year trajectory from YR 23-24 to YR 25-26, MGM Medium Vodka has demonstrated consistent upward momentum. Starting with a volume of 54,151 cases, the brand saw its sales climb to 85,526 cases by the final year.
This growth is not just internal; SAFL has successfully expanded its market footprint, increasing its share from 43% to a dominant 47%, firmly establishing itself as the leader among other companies in this segment.
The broader Tamil Nadu vodka industry is also experiencing a significant expansion, growing from an annual volume of 1,26,128 cases to 1,82,351 cases in just three years. While competitor distilleries have also seen gains, SAIPL maintains a substantial 13 percent lead over its closest rival.
A critical driver of this success is a strategic and accessible pricing model. SAFL positions its products across three standard sizes to cater to different consumer needs, with the 750 ml bottle priced at MRP Rs. 680, the 375 ml at Rs. 340, and the 180 ml at Rs. 167.
“Pricing is far more than a number on a bottle; it is a promise of value that must be perfectly calibrated to the consumer's reality,” notes Anand Muthu.
“To lead the market, your pricing must be 'just right'—it needs to be accessible enough to welcome the everyday enthusiast, yet premium enough to reflect the uncompromising quality of the spirit inside. We view strategic pricing as the ultimate form of respect for our patrons, ensuring that a world-class experience isn't a luxury for the few, but a standard for the many. It’s about finding that sweet spot where affordability meets aspiration, creating a loyalty that transcends the transaction.”
By aligning competitive pricing with a diverse flavor portfolio, SAFL has not only captured nearly half of the total market share but has also outpaced the general industry growth rate. As the industry continues to scale, SAFL’s current momentum positions it as the primary architect of the medium-segment vodka landscape.
