In a recent interview, Emraan Hashmi shared his candid thoughts on the evolving discourse surrounding nepotism in the entertainment industry. Renowned for his versatility and success in numerous films, including the recent blockbuster 'Tiger 3' alongside Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, Hashmi is currently preparing for the release of the web series 'Showtime,' produced by Karan Johar's Dharmatic.

Reflecting on the idea of nepotism, Hashmi remarked that the term had gained widespread attention without a comprehensive understanding of its meaning. He observed a trend wherein people swiftly embraced the concept without delving into its nuances. 'I believe there’s a certain communion also in hate-mongering,' he noted. 'There’s a sense of belonging in everyone jumping on a mob-like bandwagon to bring down something.'

Hashmi pointed out the irony that when the term first gained prominence, many were unfamiliar with its definition. However, as it began to trend, people began to investigate and form opinions based on prevailing sentiments rather than personal insights. He suggested that individuals were influenced by the prevailing discourse, contributing to the amplification of the debate surrounding nepotism.

The forthcoming series 'Showtime,' directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar and created by Sumit Roy, promises to delve into the intricacies of the film industry, including themes of ambition, competition, and, notably, nepotism. The trailer, which features Hashmi portraying an influential film producer striving to maintain his position in the industry, includes pointed commentary on the challenges faced by outsiders aspiring to gain a foothold in an industry often perceived as insular.

Set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8, 2024, 'Showtime' boasts a star-studded ensemble cast, including Naseeruddin Shah, Mouni Roy, Badshah, Vijay Raaz, Shriya Saran, Mahima Makwana, and Lara Chandani, among others. Backed by the digital arm of Dharma Productions, the series is poised to offer viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of show business, tackling pertinent issues with insight and intrigue.
